Our recent Fungi Foray made for a fascinating exploration of local specimens on and around the Chesworth Farm site, led by local enthusiast Jonathan Simons. After an hour or so poring over the delicate details of Sulphur Tufts and Hairy Curtains and the like, pointed out by Jonathan, the enthusiastic group retired to the comfort of the farm’s Volunteer Centre for restorative hot drinks and cakes.
Here there was a further opportunity to learn about the huge variety of native fungi by watching a short slide presentation by Jonathan and browsing in just a few volumes from his fungi reference library. The full list of species recorded by Jonathan and a couple of colleagues on the day has been listed by him on the national iRecord database , passed to the HDC countryside warden team for local recording and is also available here. With thanks to Julian Thompson for his photographs.
