Gateways under the Green Gym spotlight

Our friends at Horsham Green Gym have a task  tomorrow morning (Thursday 5 November) on the farm.  Your help would be very welcome if you are free to volunteer. Meet outside the Volunteer Centre RH13 0AA at 10am.  Hot drinks and biscuits will be supplied (of course!).

The focus tomorrow morning is on gateways:  a number of them around the farm need care and attention to open them up to allow access to visitors without being snagged by brambles, or stung by nettles and so on. A couple also require overhanging branches to be taken off to allow tractors or emergency vehicles to pass.

Future events on Chesworth Farm are:

Thursday 19 November hazel coppicing
The Warren area, which is the release site for the harvest mouse breeding programme run by the  HDC countryside wardens, is in need of thinning out and the hazel is due to be coppiced. The cuttings will be used in future projects. Meeting point: Volunteer Centre RH13 0AA at 10am.

Thursday 3 December Platt Pond reed removal & woodland thinning
The pond is due its annual clear out and surrounding hedges are due a once over. There is also a small cops of trees and hazel that are in need of coppicing. Meeting point: Volunteer Centre RH13 0AA at 10am.

Horsham Green Gym meet every Tuesday and Thursday for outdoor tasks at the HDC countryside sites round the district. Follow the link for more information and future tasks.
