Denne Hill under development threat

Shock was expressed by many people in the Denne Hill community as well as residents of the wider Horsham district when the news recently surfaced that Horsham Golf & Fitness group had put in a planning application for an 800-house development over its current site.

One place to read more about the proposal is the Keep Denne Hill Green (KDHG) website, swiftly set up by local objectors and lovers of Denne Hill. Quoting from its home page, “This [proposal] would destroy a thriving golf course, disrupt wildlife and the environment, strain essential services, compromise pedestrian, cyclist and traffic safety, and result in the loss of valuable green spaces and amenities.”

The deadline for public comments on the developer’s application ref DC/23/1178 (via the HDC planning portal) is Thursday 19 July. Says KDHG: “As many people as possible need to register objections on the Council’s planning portal. This is the only official channel to voice opposition and for objections to count.” There is also a Change online petition available to sign.

A write-up can also be found in the West Sussex County Times (6 July). The edition’s front page story, Housing plan out of bounds, is devoted largely to KDHG statements and, on page 15, there are comments from the developer.

  1. Yet more green space under concrete if this is agreed. Already masses of new houses on greenfield sites round Horsham. I can’t stress enough the need for green space for people’s mental health. Preferably with mixed habitat for us to enjoy a environment with nature thriving….birds, wild flowers etc. Help to survive the stress of Modern life. I strongly hope this plan gets thrown out.

    • Thank you for your support, Linda. If you can find a moment to object officially, we know the Keep Denne Hill Green group would be most appreciative.
